EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY

At ELE, we value everyone’s unique opinions, cultures, lifestyles, and experiences.

This policy explains what we mean by equality and diversity, who’s responsible for it, and what we promise to do (and not do).

Who This Policy Applies To

This policy applies to everyone working with us. That includes employees, officers, consultants, contractors, volunteers, casual workers, and agency staff. It covers everything from recruitment and selection to training, career development, and promotion.

We’re committed to stopping any form of discrimination, whether it’s obvious or subtle, direct or indirect. We regularly review our policies to keep them current.

What Do We Mean?

  • Equality means making sure everyone has the same chances to reach their potential without facing discrimination.
  • Inclusion is about creating a workplace where everyone feels comfortable being themselves and knows their contribution matters.
  • Diversity celebrates the differences within our team and the wider community.
  • Equity acknowledges that not everyone starts from the same place and works to remove barriers so everyone has a fair shot.

We actively support diversity, equality, and inclusion. We want everyone to feel valued and respected and to have the chance to reach their full potential.

Who Is Responsible?

  • Managers set the tone, make sure this policy is followed, and promote equal opportunities.
  • Managing Director/CEO makes sure this policy is properly implemented and monitored.

Our Commitment as an Employer

At ELE, we promise to:

  • Create a workplace where differences are recognised and valued.
  • Promote a respectful environment where bullying, harassment, or intimidation won’t be tolerated.
  • Offer training, development, and progression opportunities to everyone.
  • Understand that equality and inclusion are good for people and good for business.
  • Regularly review our policies and practices to ensure fairness.
  • Advertise job vacancies widely to reach a diverse pool of candidates.
  • Make reasonable adjustments for employees with disabilities.
  • Remove barriers that prevent underrepresented groups from joining and thriving in our company.
  • Monitor and review this policy regularly.

Our Commitment as a Service Provider

We will:

  • Provide services to all clients equally, regardless of age, disability, gender identity, marital status, pregnancy, race, religion, sex, or sexual orientation.
  • Deliver services that meet the diverse needs of our clients.
  • Remove obstacles that prevent clients from accessing our services, especially those from underrepresented groups.
  • Ensure our senior managers fully support and uphold this policy.
  • Maintain clear procedures so clients, candidates, and employees can raise concerns about unfair treatment.

Equal Opportunity Statements

We are committed to the following:

  • Age: Everyone, no matter their age, will be treated with respect and given equal access to opportunities.
  • Disability: We provide reasonable adjustments to support people with disabilities and challenge negative assumptions.
  • Race: We actively promote race equality, challenge racism, and ensure equal access for all.
  • Gender: We challenge gender stereotypes and support everyone, including those undergoing gender reassignment.
  • Sexual Orientation: We respect and support the LGBTQ+ community and promote positive inclusion.
Religion or Belief: We respect different beliefs and religious practices as long as they don’t infringe on others’ rights.
  • Pregnancy or Maternity: We support employees through pregnancy and maternity leave and ensure they aren’t treated unfairly.
  • Marriage or Civil Partnership: We ensure fair treatment for everyone, regardless of marital or partnership status.

Part-Time and Fixed-Term Work

Part-time and fixed-term employees are treated the same as full-time staff. They get the same pay and benefits (on a pro-rata basis where appropriate) unless there’s a good reason not to.

Breaches and Complaints

If someone breaks this policy, they could face disciplinary action, including dismissal. If you experience any issues, try to resolve them informally first. If that’s not possible, use our Grievance Procedure or Harassment and Bullying Policy.

We’re always open to improving this policy. If you have suggestions, get in touch with the Managing Director or COO.

At ELE, we’re committed to creating a workplace where everyone is respected, valued, and given the chance to thrive.
